Louisiana RV Parks: The RV parks in Louisiana You Want to Visit!

RV parks in Louisiana didn’t have an opportunity to show us much of their variety. We stay in only one Louisiana RV park on our way out of Texas, bound for the Florida sunshine.

It’s no reflection on Louisiana, but winter was catching up with us as we rolled east on our road trip across America. It was January, temperatures had plummeted to near-freezing even in southern Louisiana, and we were anxious to reach Florida and turn the corner south into warmer weather. We spent only three days in Louisiana, all in the same RV park, using it as a base from which to poke around in the remarkable bayou country. But Louisiana is a fascinating place. People and countryside don’t get much more interesting than they do in Louisiana, and we promised ourselves another visit -- a much longer one -- soon.

Our Louisiana sojourn was part of a 30,000-mile adventure that my wife and I undertook in search of our country and of ourselves. The trip is recounted in my book, In Search of America’s Heartbeat: Twelve Months on the Road.

The sole Louisiana RV park that we visited on this road trip, and which we enjoyed, was:

New Orleans East KOA in Slidell, across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. This RV park provided 95 sites, 40 of them gravel, the rest grass, 69 of them pull-throughs, 80 with full hookups, the rest with water and electric. It also provided a laundry room, RV supplies, LP gas, a pool and game room. Freshwater fishing was available nearby, and bayou tours in small, flat-bottomed boats were available in Slidell. New Orleans is conveniently close, and Cajun country stretches out beyond. We found an excellent restaurant in Slidell, and discovered we didn’t have to go into New Orleans for good Cajun cooking unless we opted to.

If you’re considering exploring any Louisiana RV parks, I hope you’ve found this report helpful. If you know of any other RV parks in Louisiana that I should add to this list, e-mail me at searchforamerica@msn.com.
